KARACHI:

Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital is referring patients to private laboratories for medical tests, while the failure to provide required medicines is also hampering the treatment of patients, claim certain observers.

The hospital’s medical superintendent, Rubina Bashir, has denied such reports, saying that the hospital has all the facilities for medical treatment, including laboratories and free medicines.

As per reports, the management of Civil Hospital Karachi continues to exhibit negligence and inattention towards the treatment of patients. After waiting in line at the pharmacy for a long time, the patients in the hospital are informed that the prescribed medicines are not available.

Patients from different districts across the province are forced to buy medicines from the market, despite being treated at a government hospital. Observers said that patients are also forced to visit private laboratories for the diagnosis of the disease.

“Marginalised patients are being forced pay hefty amounts for medicines and tests,” one of them said.

Patients hailing from different districts of Sindh who turn up at the public health facility told The Express Tribune that they buy medicines at high prices.

On the other hand, medical superintendent of the hospital Dr Rubina Bashir maintained that she was unaware of any such complaints faced at the public health facility.
