The deputy commissioners and other officials of all city districts, on the directives of Karachi commissioner, remained in the field on Saturday to check and ensure the implementation of price lists of food items, fixed by the city administration.
During the drive, as many as 363 profiteers across the city were issued fines worth over Rs2 million. The Malir district imposed Rs56,500 fines on 16 profiteers, district central issued Rs0.794 million fines to 56 shopkeepers for violating the price list, district east challanned 150 profiteers and issued fines worth Rs0.392 million, district west found 29 shopkeepers and vendor overcharging and issued them Rs32,000 fines.
In Keamari district 37 profiteers were issued fines worth Rs59,000 while in district South 53 profiteers were found overcharging consumers and they were issued Rs0.56 million fines. Also, 42 profiteers were issued fines of Rs0.12 million in Korangi district.
The Karachi Commissioner, Muhammad Iqbal Memon has asked the deputy commissioners to continue crackdown on profiteers and make the drive successful to provide maximum relief to consumers during the month of Ramazan.
He said that prices fixed by the city administration should be enforced strictly so that people get essential food items at affordable rates.
