Three children among five drown in canal

Three children drowned in a canal while bathing in Kallar Syedan on Saturday.

The deceased children hailed from Waziristan, said the police, adding that 10-year-old Shabnam, 7-year-old Sameer, and 8-year-old Ijaz jumped into a canal for bathing near their house and while trying to swim, all three children drowned in deep water.

Rais Khan, the father of the three children, has left for his hometown in Waziristan to perform their final rites.

Meanwhile, two young men lost their lives while bathing in the Indus River at Shadikhan. Police said that 27-year-old Noman, a resident of Shamsabad village in Hazro Tehsil, and 17-uear-old Zeeshan drowned while bathing at Shadikhan on the banks of the Indus River.

The body of one of the youths was recovered from the Indus River while the search for the other is on.

 With the increase in the intensity of heat in Hazro and surrounding areas, a large number of youths turned to the Indus River. Citizens want the district administration to Enforce Section 144 on bathing in rivers so that youth do not lose their lives.

 Last year, many young men lost their lives in the Indus River. Public circles of Chhachh have appealed to Attock Deputy Commissioner to ban bathing in Indus River and Ghazi Brotha to prevent losses of precious human lives.

Meanwhile, Sihala police caught a gang of criminals who allegedly impersonated police by dressing in uniforms and using a rotating police light while driving on GT Road.

Three suspects were arrested, including a customs official. On instructions from IG Islamabad Ahsan Younis, post-in-charge Rawat Sub-Inspector Qasim Zia, and Head Constable Anjum Nisar, recovered the stolen car of Ahmedullah, son of Shakeel Javed. Stolen vehicles, and weapons were recovered from the arrests.

The suspects were identified as Zeeshan Afzal, Ehtesham Afzal and Muhammad Arif. They were residents of Sialkot and Lahore.

Police also confiscated the vehicle used by the robbers, and 30 bore weapons. Police say they intend to get more information from the suspects. The public paid tribute to the staff of Police Post Rawat for arresting the dangerous gang.

On Friday, police launched a search operation in Dhoke Lakhan and adjoining areas in the jurisdiction of Saddar Barooni Police Station.

A police spokesman said that police conducted operation in the area and searched 69 houses and data of 23 tenants were checked while 205 suspects were held and several interrogated.
