Vegetable prices go up

Overcharging and non-availability reasons behind hike

Price hikes, overcharging and non-availability of seasonal fruit and vegetable in the markets are on the rise as prices reached the highest level during Ramazan all over Hazara division.

According to reports, a day before the holy month, onion price was Rs40-45 per kg and on the first Ramazan its price increased to Rs90-95 per kg. Similarly, tomato prices are Rs200, ginger and garlic are now being sold at Rs240 per kg and Rs250 per kg and potatoes are Rs50-60 per kg. Before the start of Ramazan lemons were up to Rs150 per kg and its price increased to Rs360 per kg, cucumbers now cost Rs70 rupees per kg, and spinach costs Rs40 per kg. Fruit prices have also increased.

Apples are being sold between Rs200 to Rs300 per kg, Afghan pomegranate is Rs250 per kg, oranges are between Rs200 and Rs300 rupees per dozen, while watermelons are Rs100 per kg. The district governments had established 'Ramazan bazaars' and Kisan markets.
