Bella Hadid is all set for acting debut with Hulu's 'Ramy'
After conquering the world of ramps and fashion shows, supermodel Bella Hadid has her eyes set on acting. The 25-year-old model will be seen in the forthcoming third season of Hulu’s Emmy-nominated comedy Ramy in a guest star role, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Since details are kept under wraps, it hasn’t been revealed if she’ll play herself or another character in the series.
Created by Ramy Youssef (who also stars as the lead in the show), Ramy is a scripted comedy loosely based on Youssef’s life. It explores the conundrum of being stuck in a loop of religion and modernity. The comedy-drama follows the life of a first-generation American Muslim living in New Jersey and the spiritual, moral, social, and political challenges he faces. The somewhat autobiographical show depicts a man caught between a religious community that believes life is a moral test and a millennial generation that doubts an afterlife even exists.
The upcoming season sees Ramy and his family forced to confront having lived a life dedicated to worldly concerns — and in some cases, lies — while he does all but abandons his spiritual journey, instead of dedicating himself to his and his uncle’s diamond business. Apart from Hadid and Youssef, Laith Nakli, Hiam Abbass, Amr Waked, May Calamawy, Dave Merheje, Mohammed Amer and Steve Way also star in the comical drama that counts the renowned American comedian Jerrod Carmichael among its executive producers.
Ramy’s third season is currently awaiting a premiere date on the Disney-backed streamer. Hadid has previously expressed her desire to venture into the acting world too. In a 2017 interview, she said she was going to "stick" with modelling for a while, "and kind of ride it out." However, she did hint at her new interest. "Eventually, I'll hopefully start dabbling in acting, but I want to be able to give my full attention to one or the other." Now that she has Ramy, who knows if the supermodel will choose to act full time.
Hadid is currently the face of the April 2022 Vogue issue and has covered several other international editions of the publications.
