Milkman, accomplices thrash neurosurgeon

Fellow medics lodge protest as suspects remain at large

A suspect accused of torturing a local neurosurgeon, Dr Hamayon Mohsin, remains at large days after the FIR was lodged with the local police. The doctors’ fraternity protested and warned of street protests if the accused was not immediately arrested. According to the FIR, In-charge of Neuro Outdoor, Nishtar hospital, Dr Hamayon Mohsin, was allegedly thrashed by a milkman and an unknown number of accused, including Shakeel Kumboh, at the corner of Gulshan Kareem colony, when the victim was on the way to the hospital three days ago.

They fractured the doctor's nose during the alleged assault and damaged his car while he was fleeing, added the FIR.

Dr Mohsin in his statement said he could not speak due to his injuries and that he did not have enmity with anyone. According to him, on the day of the incident, he asked the milkman to give way on the road because he was rushing the hospital for his duties.

It reportedly enraged the accused, who called his accomplices to the spot and started attacking him. Later, passerby gathered to protect Dr Mohsin from the assailants. He further added that the accused hurled threats that they would thrash him again if he pursued legal action against them.

Medical professionals including Dr Imran Nazir, Dr Khadim Hussain and others protested and called for the authorities concerned to take action to provide justice to the victim forthwith.
