Murder accused killed in ‘encounter’

Suspect had earlier managed to escape from police custody

An accused was killed in an alleged encounter with police in Batala Colony area.

Thirty-six-year-old Allah Rakha was being transferred to jail on Tuesday after appearing in Juranwala court when the accused told the police that he had to answer call of nature. Police personnel Ghulam Mustafa and Shahid took him to a field in Neher Patri 128 GB from where the accused escaped from police custody.

On the orders of the officers, the police personnel had been arrested and a case was registered against them under the provisions of “letting a dangerous accused escape”.

Meanwhile, at 10:30 pm on Tuesday, Khurrianwala DSP Usman Waraich was tipped-off about the whereabouts of the fugitive, Allah Rakha.

The information that the police got said that the fugitive had been hiding in a house in Batala Colony

A heavy contingent of police, including the SHO of Batala Colony, Ayub Sahi and ASI Yaqoob, raided the area where the fugitive had been hiding.

As soon as the fugitive saw the police contingent, he allegedly opened fire at it with a Kalashnikov and fled towards Hilal Road.

The police pursued the accused while the accused allegedly continued firing at the police party. Police returned the fire in which Allah Rakha was critically injured.

He was being shifted to the Civil Hospital under the supervision of ASI Yaqub, but the accused died on the way to the hospital. According to police, the deceased had been wanted by the police in cases of robbery and murder which were registered at Balochni Police Station and Khurrianwala Police Station respectively.

Last month in Dijkot a youth who had been injured in a police encounter on Naranwala Road eight days ago died of his injuries at the Allied Hospital.
