Sindh Healthcare Commission (SHCC) met with key media stakeholders in Karachi, in a bid to appraise the media on SHCC, its scope of operations and key functions of the commission, thereby promoting mutual dialogue and communications to print and electronic media.

In the wake of fake news and unauthorised letters being circulated on social media, the key point of this meeting session was to promote clarity of communication to reach an overall positive impact when it comes to the dissemination of information and news across the country.

SHCC CEO Dr Ahson Qavi Siddiqui gave a comprehensive overview of the functions, achievements and future direction for operational strategy of the commission. Media representatives provided constructive feedback during the session. "We are one team and we must stay united to ensure public awareness on healthcare and curb the menace of fake news circulation," said the CEO.

He also stated that the element of respect be maintained when reporting on clinics and doctors so as to differentiate between legitimate medical professionals and 'quacks 'impersonating as doctors. "We must check the authenticity of the news first," stated the CEO.

The idea behind the event was to engage with media more effectively by consulting with each other before reporting news that may harm the interest of the healthcare establishments and general public.
