Officials say will bulldoze over 40 commercial structures developed on residential plots

KARACHI:

The Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) on Monday launched a grand operation to demolish the illegal marriage halls on the Korangi Road.

District administration and police personnel were also present during the demolition being carried out in compliance with the order of the Supreme Court.

SBCA officials used heavy machinery for demolition of the illegal constructions.

There was no resistance during the demolition exercise.

The SBACA officials said that 42 illegal marriage halls have been set up on residential plots on Korangi Road which will be demolished in the light of the order of the Supreme Court of Pakistan and the owners of the wedding halls were informed through notices prior to the demolition work.

On the other hand, the owners of marriage halls said that they had filed an appeal in the Supreme Court of Pakistan against the court decision and their appeal has been accepted but the date of hearing has not been set.

The SBCA officials have also been informed in this regard but despite this, an operation has been launched to demolish the marriage halls.

Owners of wedding halls say they demand that wedding halls not be demolished until the review appeal is decided.

They said that marriage halls have been set up on residential plots all over the city and the owners of Korangi marriage halls have also deposited challan amount for regularization and commercialization of marriage halls.
