Pregnant woman killed in construction accident

Doctors say the condition of daugter is also critical

KARACHI:

A pregnant woman was killed and her four-year-old daughter was injured when cement blocks fell from a under construction building in Gizri on a house. The house was partially damaged.

According to details, several blocks of cement fell from second floor of a building under construction near Abu Bakar Mosque in Upper Gizri area on Sunday afternoon, killing 30-year-old Dua Arsalan and injuring her four-year-old daughter. Residents and family members shifted the mother and daughter to Jinnah Hospital. Doctors said that condition of the young girl was also critical.

Hospital sources said deceased was pregnant. According to SHO Clifton Arshad Afridi, the roof of the house where the cement block fell was also made up of cement.

Dua Arsalan was sleeping with her four-yearold daughter at the time of the accident. After legal proceedings, body was handed over to heirs and a raid was carried out on the under construction building to arrest the laborers and the contractor.

Gizri police station officials said that the contractor and labourers have fled, but they will be arrested soon. As per officials, police are conducting raids to arrest the owner of the under construction building, which was being extended upwards illegally.
