Spring festival: Holi celebrated in Rawalpindi

Hindu festival marks the victory of good over evil, the arrival of spring

RAWALPINDI:

Like other parts of the country, the Hindu community celebrated the festival of Holi with great enthusiasm on Friday.

The Hindu festival marks the victory of good over evil, the arrival of spring and the end of winter.

Special services were held in temples of Rawalpindi. Large ceremonies were held in the temples of Gracy Line, Kabaddi Bazaar Saddar and Lal Kurti. The biggest Holi celebration in Rawalpindi was held at Krishna Mandir, Kabaddi Bazaar Saddar under the supervision of Sardar Hira Lal, Central President of Pakistan Hindu-Sikh Social Welfare Association. The temple had been specially decorated for the day.

A large number of people, including members of the Hindu community, participated in the festivities. The festival started with a dhamal, but the highlight of the festival was the dances and traditional songs.

The slogan of this year's Holi celebrations was "Pakistan's development, prosperity and security". Children, adults, women and youth all participated in the Holi festival. The participants in the Holi celebrations threw different colours at each other and enjoyed the festival. Holi is the largest and most religious festival of the Hindu community in the spring.

Religious songs were also performed at the celebrations. Sardar Hira Lal, President Hindu-Sikh Welfare Association, said that it is a great pleasure for Pakistan today that the festival of Muslim Ummah, Shab-e-Barat and our festival of Holi had come on the same day. We all prayed for the development and prosperity of Pakistan,” he said.

He said that the Hindu community and all minorities in Pakistan were completely safe and they were ready to sacrifice their lives for the defence of Pakistan.
