16 ‘sasta bazaars’ to be set up during Ramazan

Cheap bazaars will have vegetables, fruit, foodstuffs, pulses, rice, chicken etc at subsidised rates

Sixteen ‘sasta Ramadan bazaars’ will be set up across Rawalpindi district during Ramazan for the sale of subsidised vegetables, fruit, foodstuffs, pulses, basins, rice and chicken.

Locations for setting up these cheap markets have also been identified. All these cheap Ramadan bazaars will be set up under big canopies.

The agriculture department will also have a stall in every sasta Ramadan bazaar for selling pulses and vegetables at subsidised rates.

There will be 10 cheap Ramadan bazaars in Rawalpindi city and Rawalpindi Cantonment areas and one cheap bazaar in each of the six tehsils of the district.

Meetings have been convened next week to finalise arrangements with traders for the sasta bazaars.

Cheap Ramadan bazaars in Rawalpindi will be established at Allama Iqbal Park parking area, Committee Chowk, Hyderi Chowk, Dhok Hasso, Khayaban Sir Syed, Chakri Road, Adiala Road, Chohar Chowk, Chowgi 22 and Gulzar-e-Quaid.

Gujar Khan, Kahuta, Klar Syedan, Kotli Satyan, Murree and Taxila tehsils each will also have a cheap Ramadan bazaar.

district market committee chairman Chaudhry Imtiaz Ahmed said that in all the cheap Ramadan bazaars, one price magistrate would be available permanently while police and civil defence personnel will be on security duty.

Closed-circuit cameras will be installed in every cheap market.

Market committee representatives will also be present in each bazaar. Negotiations have also started with butchers for the supply of cheap mutton and beef during Ramadan.

There will also be a chicken stall in each cheap bazaar where the chicken will be sold at a cheaper rate than the market.
