Pottery health benefits drive up sales, prices
Vendors are getting ready to sell pottery with the onset of summer and changing weather. Currently, the trend of using pottery and earthenware for cooking and drinking is on the rise. Medical experts state that the use of pottery has a positive effect on human health, particularly for people suffering from high blood pressure, respiratory problems, diabetes and heart and bone diseases.
The public has been advised to cook and eat in earthenware to better maintain their health and people have also increased the use of mud pots to store cold water in their homes during the summer months. With the arrival of summer, vendors in various markets of the city have decorated the pottery for sale while pottery makers have also increased their work. However, the increased demand has led to a major increase in the prices of earthenware.
With health benefits in mind, people have now increased their use of old-fashioned clay pots, glasses, Kunali for kneading flour, clay Khujha for yogurt and other earthenware utensils, in spite of rising costs. Meanwhile, some restaurant owners have also started cooking in earthenware, charging more for food prepared using traditional earthenware. Tea vendors have started selling tea in earthenware glasses, which is much more expensive than ordinary teacups. Incomes have gone up as a result, as people will pay for the health benefits of using pottery for food and drink.
In light of increasing threats from disease and illness, doctors and Hakeems are advising people to use pottery to stay safe from diseases and maintain good health. As a result, pottery sales have increased and will likely increase from now on.
