A constitutional petition was filed in the Balochistan High Court (BHC) on Friday for the disqualification of Prime Minister Imran Khan pertaining to the threats he hurled at former president Asif Ali Zardari in his speech.
The petition was filed by former Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) president Amanullah Kanrani.
“I submitted the petition and the court is likely to issue notices on Monday,” Kanrani told The Express Tribune.
The premier, in his stormy speech, had leveled serious allegations against Zardari during his recent visit to Karachi.
“Zardari, you are my next target,” the PM had stated.
Under Article 62, 63 of the Constitution, the PM can be disqualified for threatening and using foul language against Shehbaz Sharif and Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Kanrani pleaded in the petition.
The petitioner stated that that Pakistan is an Islamic State under Article 2 of the Constitution. Under Article 31 of the Constitution, the PM is bound to abide by the Islamic values and its implementation.
The SCBA president mentioned that the premier can neither threaten nor use foul language against any citizen of Pakistan. Therefore, the court is requested to disqualify the PM and order new elections for the slot, the petitioner concluded.
