Protesters demand deployment of security staff at Tarbela colonies

HARIPUR:

A large number of Tarbela power station employees staged a protest against incessant theft and burglary incidents in the Tarbela Dam right bank colony.

The protesters Tarbela Union Chairman Afsar Khan staged the protest in front of the Tarbela power station gate.

Addressing the protesters, Afsar Khan said that Tarbela power station employees run the powerhouse 24 hours a day and if an employee goes to his native village along with his family members, valuables, jewellery etc are stolen from his house.

He demanded that strict security measures be put in place to prevent thieves from entering the Tarbela colonies. Cameras should be installed so that theft can be prevented he said demanding DPOs of Haripur and Swabi to get the thieves arrested.

Tarbela Union General Secretary Tanveer Ahmad Khan said that theft incidents in the right bank colony has increased alarmingly, causing nervousness among the employees.

He said that WAPDA high-ups should wake up and play a positive role in this regard.

Meanwhile, Afsar Khan said that they ended their protest after WAPDA officials assured them of the provision of security to prevent thefts.

Gas supply project inaugurated

Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Umar Ayub inaugurated an Rs1.90 billion gas supply project in Beer.

After inaugurating the project, he said that Rs29 billion have been allocated for the construction of roads in the Haripur district including electricity and gas.

“This has brought a revolutionary change in the district during the last three years. These are the areas where voltage and load shedding were in dire straits. We have not only eliminated the deprivations of the previous 10 years but also approved five grids.

The minister said that the economy was severely affected by the coronavirus globally but due to the best strategy of Prime Minister Imran Khan, the situation is much better here than in the neighbouring countries.

“Today, thanks to the PTI government every person has Rs1.5 million in his pocket in the form of a health card. The opposition could not digest these friendly measures and plans of the prime minister.

He said that in the 2023 election, the PTI will form the government again.
