Sanam Saeed agrees she'll need whitening injections to play Maryam Nawaz
Actors Sanam Saeed and Mohib Mirza have been making headlines lately to promote their film Ishrat Made in China, which released in cinemas on Friday. During promotions for the action-romantic comedy, Saeed expressed an interest in essaying the role of PML-N vice president Maryam Nawaz in a biopic.
On a talk show for the PSL finale, a rapid fire round had its spotlight on the Cake actor. The 37-year-old was asked whether she’ll be willing to take on the role of Maryam Nawaz in her biopic if given a chance.
While willing to take on the job, Saeed was of the opinion that Nawaz’s complexion is too fair to match hers and hence, she wouldn’t be a good match for it. “If she was of my complexion, then sure, but she’s not. She’s fairer than I am so you’ll have to consider someone else.” Upon which, her co-star Mirza inquired if she’d be willing to get whitening jabs for the role to fit the bill. “Yeah, then I'll do it,” retorted Saeed with a chuckle.
Ishrat Made in China marks the first big-screen project for Mirza and Saeed and is apparently, going international too. In a recent interview with Arab News, the duo dished out that the film is in talks to be screened with subtitles in the Middle East. Mirza, who made his directorial debut with the film shared that the Arabic subtitling of the film was already complete.
“We are working on it. And most probably, of course, the Middle East is the prime market for films, so it will be released (there) for sure.” Saeed shared that she hopes for possible collaborations between Islamabad and Riyadh.
“We can explore all kinds of avenues in Saudi Arabia,” the actor said. “Between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, the relationship that they've already had, always had, it can go further in a really different, motivating, inspiring way.”
The film, which is largely a spin-off of the 2006 satirical TV series Ishrat Baji, also stars Sara Loren, Ali Kazmi, Shamoon Abbasi, Nayyar Ejaz, Shabbir Jan, Imam Syed, Salman Saqib (Mani) and Mustafa Chaudhry. It will also mark the acting debut of acclaimed designer Hassan Sheheryar Yasin (HSY).
