Over 11,000 schools lying idle in Sindh: Shah

Minister says provincial govt's responsibility to provide furniture, buildings to the teachers

Over 11,000 schools are lying idle in Sindh, said Minister for Education and Culture Syed Sardar Ali Shah on Monday.

"We are reducing the number of primary schools and increasing the number of secondary schools," the said addressing the launch of a book Historical Interviews by Ameer Abro at Arts Council of Pakistan, Karachi.

"We have recently recruited 50,000 teachers on merit through IBA," he said.

Regarding criticism on Sindh government for closing down thousands of schools, Shah said, "we are not closing any school. We are closing the wadera's guest rooms and buffalo pens."

The minister further said that it was responsibility of the provincial government to provide furniture and buildings to the teachers in the schools.

Expressing his views on the occasion, ACP President Muhammad Ahmad Shah said, "I am pleased that whatever the land and the community gave Amir Abro, he gave it back." Reshma Parveen, a famous singer from Sindh, performed at the end of the ceremony. Atiyah Daad, Javed Qazi Amir Abro, Aijaz Turk, Haider Nizamani Rashid Memon Aajez Jamali, Mahi Noor Sheikh, Dr Ayub Sheikh And others addressed the event.
