Call to introduce new marble technology

It will help boost country’s exports and economy

ISLAMABAD:

Several construction sector projects are being developed in Dubai and the rest of the UAE and Pakistan has immense potential to increase exports of its value-added marble products to the Middle Eastern nation, said Dubai-based businessmen Amin Noorani and Nasir Ahmed.

They made the remarks in a meeting with Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) President Muhammad Shakeel Munir on Monday.

Munir called on the government to focus on the marble industry to boost its growth.

“The marble industry has the potential to make Pakistan a rapidly growing economy,” he said. “Pakistan has big reserves of marble and granite in all regions.” The government should help in introducing mechanised mining by reducing duties on the import of marble machinery and technology, he suggested.

He lamented that the sector was not given due attention despite its tremendous potential to boost exports and economy.

Giving examples, he added that China, Italy, Turkey, Spain and Brazil exploited their marble reserves effectively for economic development.
