Five arrested as police swoop down on drug peddlers
The police on Sunday arrested five alleged drug pushers and recovered 5.7 kgs of drugs from their possession during a crackdown in Rawalpindi.
A police spokesman informed that during the course of action, Taxila police arrested drug dealer Waris, and recovered 2.2 kgs of drugs from his possession. Similarly, Murree police held drug dealer Muhammad Shehzad and recovered 1.2 kgs of drugs from his custody.
Following the operation, Pirwadhi police arrested Adil and recovered 1.6 kgs of drugs from his possession. Meanwhile, Gujjar Khan police nabbed drug dealer Aqib Ali and recovered 380 grams of hashish from him.
Mandra police arrested the accused Muhammad Ashfaq and recovered 320 grams of charas from him.
City Police Officer (CPO) Omar Saeed Malik appreciated the performance of police teams, adding that operations against drug dealers would be continued without any discrimination. Police have registered separate cases against all of the accused. Further investigation is in progress.
Meanwhile, the Rawalpindi Police, during a crackdown on professional beggars on Saturday, arrested 29 beggars to discourage the menace of begging and to avoid the risk of road accidents due to jaywalking.

On the directives of the Beggars Squad In-Charge, the respective teams took action against professional beggars and detained them in different police stations of the city, said a Rawalpindi Police spokesperson.
On the occasion, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations Waseem Riaz said that special beggar squads were working hard to overcome the increasing number of professional beggars.
“The professional beggars stand on various highways and squares of Rawalpindi city and not only affect the flow of traffic but also increase risk of accidents. Therefore, the public is requested not to serve alms to them, as discouraging such factors will not only improve the society, but also the flow of traffic," he said.
On Friday, the Rawalpindi police arrested 34 beggars. Rawalpindi police spokesman said that on the directives of the in-charge Beggars Squad, along with their respective teams, action was taken against the professional beggars and beggars were detained in different police stations of the city. SSP Operations Waseem Riaz said the special beggar squad were working hard to overcome the increasing number of professional beggars.
On the day, the Bani police arrested 11 gamblers and recovered bet money of Rs16,300 and 11 mobile phones from their possession.
The police registered separate cases against them.
