Independent group clinches victory in LHCBA polls
Independent group led by late Asma Jahangir clinched the victory on the presidential slot in Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA)’s poll by defeating a professional group led by Hamid Khan.
Sardar Ali Akbar Dogar became the president of LHCBA for the year of 2022-23 by grabbing 6,581 votes. While Rana Asadullah Khan, who was also in the run for the presidential slot, could only secure 3,976 votes.
On the vice president’s seat, Sohail Shafique Chaudhry was elected as LHCBA secretary who secured 4,743 votes, while Rana Muhammad Razaq could obtain 2,003, Mian Sardar Ali 1,818, Abdul Karim Khan 1,072 and Adnan Tahir Khan 902 votes.
On the secretary’s seat, Rai Usman Ahmad became the LHCBA’s secretary who got 4,455 votes while Mian Shabir Hussain 211, Tahir Farooq Allah Bax Laghari 2,931 and Mian Muhammad Irfan could only get 2,938 votes.
On the finance secretary’s slot, Rana Ali Akhtar Khan became the finance secretary who secured 4103 votes while Muhammad Shahrukh Shehbaz could obtain 3327 votes, Ramzan Mansha Jutt 385, Falak Naz (female candidate) 2055 and Ehsan Ullah Khan could only obtain 681 votes.
On Saturday 10,630 voters exercised their right to vote. There were more than 25,000 eligible voters.
A woman lawyer Izat Fatima said she had heard about the election festivity from her elders and seniors but she first time witnessed it. “No doubt either there is Lahore Bar Association (LBA) or the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA)’s polls but the legal fraternity believes these are not elections for them but a festival which they observe with enthusiasm.
