Alia Bhatt's Gangubai Kathiawadi opened to a mammoth response on Friday. The film's earning at the box-office on a single day soared to INR100million! The Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial was touted to be Bhatt's biggest film so far and seems like the thought just might come to fruition!
While Bollywood came forward and congratulated Bhatt for her brilliant portrayal of Gangubai, a matriarch from Kamatipura, there was - as always - Kangana Ranaut at wit's end. The Queen star openly criticised Bhatt for not being the adequate actor to be cast in the film. However, on Saturday, Ranaut shocked everyone while praising the Raazi star for her brilliant acting.
The Rangoon actor took to her Instagram and wrote, “Happy to hear theatres are being revived in South film industry with record-breaking collections. I hear some baby steps are being taken in the Hindi belt also. With recent female-centric film which has a big hero and a superstar director. They may be baby steps but they are not insignificant. They will be crucial for theatres that are on ventilators here. Great.”
She added, “Never expected that movie mafia will rise to the occasion and do something good. If they do, we will be absolutely appreciative. Hoping for the best.”
Earlier, Ranaut had slammed Bhatt and her appearance in the Bhansali directorial. She indirectly called the Highway star a 'daddy's angel' and Mahesh Bhatt a ‘movie mafia’. She further added in another Instagram story, "Bollywood mafia daddy papa Jo who has single-handedly ruined the work culture in the film industry, has emotionally manipulated many big directors and forced his products of mediocrity on their cinematic brilliance, another example will be following soon after this release. People need to stop entertaining him, in this Friday release even a big hero and greatest director are the new victims of his manipulations."
Bhatt, however, refrained from speaking ill about Ranaut. Speaking with RJ Stutee on Hindustan Times' Aur Batao, she was asked that while she has been open about her admiration for Ranaut, does she feel bad that it doesn't get reciprocated. "No, I genuinely have no feelings of negativity or anything. I have no feelings only towards it," Bhatt had responded.
