American TV presenter 'scared' that her Italian vacation may suffer due to the war in Ukraine
What kind of elite detachment causes a level of tone-deafness and ignorance to be whining about a luxurious travel plan being affected by a war destroying millions of lives? Well, the first world problem is relatable for the American TV presenter and actor, Josephine Victoria, popularly known as Joy Behar.
On Thursday, The View host received backlash when she complained about how the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine will possibly affect her long-delayed Italian getaway planned for this summer. The controversial statement was blurted out when co-host Sunny Hostin laid out statistics and facts regarding the concerning warfare in eastern Europe, that saw mass evacuations of Kyiv after president Vladimir Putin launched his all-out invasion of Ukraine.
“Estimates are 50,000 Ukrainians will be dead or wounded and this is going to start a refugee crisis in Europe. We're talking about 5 million people that are going to be displaced. It's heartbreaking to hear what is going to happen,” shared Hostin.
However, Behar had a more pressing subject during the serious conversation; the far-fetched consequences of war– but alas, it wasn’t out of worry for the natives. Trying to centre the discussion towards western Europe, specifically, her apparent summer plans to travel to Italy, located about 1,500 miles from where Russian forces were bombing its neighbour, she said, “I'm scared of what's going to happen in western Europe, too. You plan a trip, you want to go there, I've wanted to go to Italy for four years and I haven't been able to make it because of the pandemic and now this. It's like, what's gonna happen there?”
Many think the tone-deaf statement came at par with TV host, Whoopi Goldberg’s ignorant stance on Holocaust not being about race. The micro-blogging site was furious with Behar’s statement and called her out for it.
