KARACHI:

After frequent delays, Adnan Siddiqui’s production debut and the Ehtashamuddin directorial Dum Mastam will finally hit the big screens on Eid-ul-Fitr. The trailer launch of the film was an extravagant, star-studded affair with celebrities like Urwa Hocane, Zhalay Sarhadi, Bilal Maqsood, Sanam Saeed, Mohib Mirza, Bilal Ashraf, Humayun Saeed among others, in attendance.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, Adnan elaborated on the title of the film. “It’s a word that screams joy. Dum Mastam means to enjoy, to reach a stage of self-actualisation where you’re content with yourself and your actions. Once you’ve reached that stage, you say Dum Mastam.” Well, that definitely hints at a happy ending for us!

Calling the film his “baby”, Adnan also maintained, “Dum Mastam is not experimental, I didn’t take that risk with this one. It is filled with what the audience expects on a festive occasion like Eid – emotions, songs, love, drama. It has it all.”

Set in the often-romanticised neighbourhoods of old Lahore, Dum Mastam’s trailer ticks all boxes for a quintessential family flick. The brief but fast-paced first look of the film successfully delivers a kaleidoscopic outlook into the childhood lovebirds-Aliya (Amar Khan) and Bao’s (Imran Ashraf Awan) lives that eventually face a karmic shift.

The turn of events leads to a painful awakening that simultaneously awards the duo with growing success in their relative careers, turning them into sensations. And of course, the classic family drama features an action sequence, too.

Amar is also the writer of the promising karmic love saga and her character is a gorgeous dancer who is seen transforming her aspirations into reality by becoming an international sensation. Imran’s Bao, however, is a lovable street rooky known for his witty and loud personality. Bao hits the sky with his high notes as a singer but in the process of becoming big in the music world, he dons an emotionally detached avatar.

Filled with comic punchlines, groovy dance tracks, and power-packed performances of love and passion, the trailer further hypes the emotional journey of the duo. It also sees actor and producer Adnan connected to the competition Aliya partakes in.
