In the garb of love and duty: Mawra Hocane laments how women are blamed for marital rape
Mawra Hocane's latest offering Qissa Meherbano Ka is highlighting the plight of a woman witnessing domestic abuse. Mawra, essaying Mehru, is stuck in an abusive marriage with Murad, played by Ahsan Khan. Qissa Meherbano Ka has been touted as a conversation starter about marital rape with its honest portrayal of what a problematic and manipulative marriage truly looks like.
In a recent post, Mawra shared the importance to talk about the societal taboo. "While marital rape is a shameful and derogatory crime violating women since time immemorial, it is still widely disregarded as a criminalised offense and more commonly labelled as disobedience on a woman’s part. Absurd."
Sharing a scene from Qissa Meherbano Ka, where Murad tries manipulating Mehru under the farce of true love, the actor added, "It’s 2022 and men like Murad freely exist in all spheres of life who not only rape their wives but to make it worse also fail to acknowledge it and mock it. In the garb of love and duty, countless women are raped all across the world."
The Sanam Teri Kasam actor further commented, "Qissa Meherbano Ka was our humble attempt to start a conversation around this heinous act. It was heartbreaking to perform but my heart is full at the response and acceptance we have received. As the last episode airs on coming Saturday we hope to have taken a baby step towards a solution that may take us many many more such initiatives."
Qissa Meherbano Ka also stars Zaviyar Naumaan, Mashal Khan, Mohammad Ahmad, Khushhal Khan in pivotal roles.
