UNDP holds consultations for Karachi Master Plan

Participants deliberated on priorities of the next master plan

KARACHI:

Under the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) technical assistance to Sindh government for development of the Karachi Master Plan, a series of consultations are being held at the city level in collaboration with Directorate of Urban Policy and Strategic Planning of the Planning and Development Department.

The second and third consultation involving business community representatives, civil society, CBOs and citizen voices of Karachi were held this week from Tuesday, February 22 to 24 February at NED University.

Participants deliberated on priorities of the next master plan, including business community concerns related to a conducive environment for economic growth, supportive infrastructure and services, business hubs, transport, warehousing, city's institutional strengths.

Civil society had its concerns related to urban resilience, traffic management, security, recreational spaces, urban greening and basic services needs of Karachi.

Participants included Karachi's social activists, citizen action forums, representatives of ABAD, Pakistan Engineering Forum, Academia & think-tanks, and Taajir Ittehad unions from various areas of Karachi.
