A back injury will prevent South African Mbulaeni Mulaudzi from defending his World Athletics Championships 800-metres title in Daegu, South Korea this month. Mulaudzi has been battling a hamstring problem which affected his lower back and coach Peet van Zyl said the injury did not respond to treatment, forcing the title-holder to pull out of the South African team. The 30-year-old has been struggling since an injury-induced withdrawal from the Commonwealth Games in India last October.
