QUETTA:

Metropolitan Corporation Quetta (MCQ) employees on Monday announced to expand their protest across the province after the failed round of talks with the local administration pertaining to non-payment of salaries.

Addressing the gathering, MCQ employees’ union leader stated that offering hollow reassurances are not enough to run their houses and feed their children.

He demanded that practical steps should be taken by the government to address their salaries and pensions demand instantly.

Further on giving reference of developed countries where local bodies are prioritised as compared to other departments, the union leader urged the government to play a leading role in the transformation of services to the gross root level.

He lamented that the workers, who have been working day and night to keep the city clean and maintain the sewerage system, are protesting for their payment of salaries and pensions since the past weeks.

“Non-payment of salaries and pensions to the employees of MCQ since last two months and government’s delay tactics with them is tantamount to cruelty and injustice,” the MCQ Union leader added. “Islam has urged employers to pay worker’s wages before his sweat dries but the rulers want to bury the workers alive.”

He warned that in case of any untoward incident with MCQ employees the government of Balochistan would be responsible.
