UN office to help improve S Punjab development indicators

Delegation calls on additional chief secretary of region

MULTAN:

A delegation of the United Nations Resident Co o r d i n at i o n O f f i c e (UNRCO) called on the Additional Chief Secretary of South Punjab, Capt. (Retd.) Saqib Zafar, at his office here on Sunday.

The UNRCO delegation, led by the Head of the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator’s Office in Pakistan, Shah Nasir Khan, and Provincial Coordinator of Punjab UNRCO, Maryum Iqbal and Laila Rubab Jaskani.

The Secretary of Planning and Development of South Punjab, Syed Shoaib Iqbal, also attended the meeting.

Shah Nasir Khan, while briefing the ACS of South Punjab, said that on the request of the Government of Punjab, the UNRCO had planned to provide a dialogue facility between the government and key development partners, including the country heads of the UN agencies and development partnership.

The delegation told the meeting that the purpose of the plan was to bring together the government officials of the Federal and Punjab governments as well as officials of South Punjab and development partners for a discussion on administrative, developmental, and governance challenges being faced by South Punjab and to chalk out a strategy on how development partners could provide technical and financial support for improving the development indicators of South Punjab.

He said the objective of the session was to discuss major challenges of South Punjab and how to address those challenges.

The meeting was told that the development partners would visit the projects to look into those challenges.

South Punjab additional chief secretary assured the delegation of provision of all administrative support for the success of the session.
