KARACHI:

Eight months past a murder incident, the investigation police cracked the case when senior officers responded to the plea of the complainant.

The East District Investigation Police have arrested a woman along with her alleged paramour on charges of poisoning her husband eight months ago.

The suspect, Erin Jannat, had allegedly poisoned her husband, Yousha Rizwan. She had planned the murder with her alleged paramour.

According to police, on June 27, 2021, Yousha Rizwan was having dinner with his wife Erin Jannat when his wife asked him to bring something from the restaurant. Meanwhile, the suspect allegedly mixed poison in her husband’s food.

As soon as Yousha started eating, his condition deteriorated and he told his wife that he was having chest pain. The woman called the family late as planned and told them that Yousha's condition was deteriorating. He was rushed to a private hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

When Yousha died, his father Muhammad Rizwan expressed suspicion that his son had been poisoned. Gulshan-e-Iqbal police conducted legal formalities, the doctors saved the report and sent the organs to a laboratory for chemical exams.

The Gulshan-e-Iqbal police registered a case of murder of the victim on the complaint of his father. The victim was childless and worked for a private company.

For eight months, the East Investigation Police kept dallying the matter. Meanwhile, Muhammad Rizwan contacted DIG East Muqaddas Haider and SSP East Investigation-I Altaf Hussain and apprised them of the situation.

The officers took immediate notice and ordered the investigation officer to immediately arrest the suspects involved in the incident to solve the murder case. At this the IO sprang into action. In the first phase, he got the data of the mobile phones of the victim and his wife so he found out that the widow of the deceased had received numerous phone calls from a mobile number and the same number was also active on WhatsApp.

The police apprehended and interrogated the victim's widow. Jannat admitted that she had befriended Salman, a resident of Lahore, on Instagram and WhatsApp and he planned to get Yousha Rizwan out of their way. Salman sent poison through a courier service from Lahore and asked her to mix it in Yousha's food. Police arrested accused Salman in Lahore and transferred him to Karachi. It may be recalled that dozens of cases are pending in Karachi due to incompetence of investigation police.
