DI KHAN:

Unidentified people last night vandalised the statue of a rider on horseback in Bannu district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa by cutting both of the forelegs of the horse.

Deputy Commissioner Captain (retired) Zubair Niazi told The Express Tribune that the statue is located in a deserted place that is why the attackers vandalized it unnoticed and escaped.

“An FIR has been lodged against the unidentified people and an inquiry ordered into the case. There were no prior threats or warnings. For the time being we have repaired the statues of the horse and the rider as one leg of the latter was also found severed,” he said, adding that strict action will be taken against those responsible.

An official said that six statues of riders had been installed in six main squares of the Bannu city by the district administration as part of the beautification process three years ago.

“Last night unidentified people attacked one the of the statues of the lance-bearing riders installed on the bridge of Kurram River in Bannu and escaped,” he said.

He added that these statues are made of fiber which can be damaged easily.
