Twist in Dua Mangi case: Complainant becomes suspect

In a major twist, the investigation police have arrested the complainant of the case of an escaped suspect in the Dua Mangi kidnapping case. The East Judicial Magistrate handed over ASI Khalid Hussain to police for a two-day physical remand.

For the next two days, interrogators will have all the time in the world to question ASI Hussain in the remand room of the precinct over how and why he allowed an under trial prisoner go shopping at Tariq Road.

A case pertaining to the escape of the main accused in the alleged Duna Mangi kidnapping case was heard before the East Judicial Magistrate in Karachi City Court. Police presented the arrested ASI Hussain in court.

The investigation officer said that on the accused's instructions, head constables Muhammad Naveed and Habib Zafar used to take the accused from the court. ASI Khalid became the complainant in the case to save himself. However,  the accused was found involved in the crime during investigation.

Hussain admitted that Habib Zafar and Muhammad Naveed used to take the accused out of the court every time.

Despite being in-charge, ASI Khalid Hussain never took action against the two officials. The court handed the accused Khalid to the police on a two-day physical remand.

According to police, the other arrested suspects include Head Constable Muhammad Naveed, Head Constable Nayab Ahmed, Head Constable Muhammad Younis, Constable Habib Zafar and taxi driver Umar Farooq.

The case of escape of accused Zohaib Qureshi was registered on the state's complaint. Two policemen used to take the suspect from the court to the jail in a private vehicle while the munshi would assign these officials the duty to take Zohaib Qureshi to court.

Head Constable Muhammad Naveed and Habib Zafar took accused Zohaib Ali Qureshi to Tariq Road for shopping, where the accused took the opportunity to escape from the shopping mall.
