16 die in Punjab road accidents

65% of road crashes involved motorcycles, underage drivers

At least 16 people died, whereas 1,082 were injured in 1,035 Road Traffic Crashes (RTCs) across Punjab during the last 24 hours. Out of this 625 people were critically injured and were shifted to different hospitals. Whereas, 457 minor injured victims were treated at the incident site.

The majority (65%) involved motorcycles. Further, the analysis showed that 462 drivers, 24 underage drivers, 160 pedestrians, and 476 passengers were among the victims of these road traffic crashes. The statistics show that 275 RTCs were reported in Lahore which affected 285 people placing the Provincial Capital at top of the list followed by 69 Faisalabad with 72 victims and at third Multan with 68 RTCs and 76 victims.

The details further reveal that 1,082 victims were affected by road traffic crashes including 896 males and 202 females, while the age group of the victims shows that 225 were under 18 years of age, 539 were between 18 and 40 years and the rest of the 334 victims were reported above 40 years of age. According to the data 887 motorcycles, 96 rickshaws, 131 cars, 25 vans, six passenger buses, 34 trucks and 116 other types of auto vehicles and slow-moving carts were involved in aforesaid road traffic accidents.
