Senator Samina Mumtaz Zehri has welcomed the growing women activism in Balochistan and said skilled and educated women of the province are performing their duties well in all walks of life.
She termed women’s development indispensable for the development and stability of society. She said that women serve as an important pillar of society and half of Pakistan population is made of women so their role cannot be ignored in the development and prosperity of this country.
She emphasised women participation and their leading role in the development of society.
Samina Zehri, Convener, Sub-Committee on Standing Committee, Senate, while talking to a delegation of women on the occasion of Women’s Day said that it is essential to provide opportunities for the welfare and development of women.
She highlighted the challenges women faced in society and stressed the need for the formulation of comprehensive women-friendly policies to address them.
Samina Zehri said that the constitution of Pakistan guarantees protection of women’s rights but awareness is needed to make women aware of their rights.
She approved the fact that education opportunities for women in Balochistan are relatively less than in other parts of the country and they are suffering from various mental disorders whereas in order to move the society on the path of development it is necessary to provide education to women.
“Skilled and independent women can play an important role in society’s sustainable development and stability. Women’s constructive role in this regard ought to be encouraged,” she added.
She said that technical and vocational centers have been set up in remote and backward areas of Balochistan to educate women and make them skilled and empowered, where a large number of women are acquiring skills.
“Work is in progress to establish more vocational training centers in the remote areas of the province so that the women of this province can gain expertise,” Zehri added.
