PARC for enhancing avocado farming
A number of crops are changing their places in Pakistan amid climate change, forcing Pakistan Agriculture Research Council (PARC) to fill the gap with climate-resilient crops and avocado plantation is part of the campaign, said PARC Programme Leader of Fruit Crops Dr Alam.
Talking to APP on Thursday, he emphasised that PARC was determined to help grow avocadoes at the commercial level after successfully producing 12 suitable varieties of the fruit through grafting according to climatic conditions of the region. “In 1994, Pakistan had only two varieties of avocadoes but the number has now improved to 12, of which some are providing more fruit than the mother plants, which will be soon available for commercial farming,” he added. “Plants of avocadoes are high in demand.”
