LAHORE:

Police highhandedness and traffic gridlocks marred the first day of Pakistan Super League (PSL) matches in the provincial capital.

As the security arrangements began for the PSL match, a motorcyclist and a motorist were spotted being manhandled by Gulberg DSP Amir Abbas. The citizens reportedly tried to pass a cordoned area.

Hundreds of citizens travelling to and from their workplaces remained in distress due to traffic disruption.

The inspector general of police took notice of the incident and ordered the SSP operations to conduct an inquiry.

Over 8,000 police personnel were deployed for the event. DIG Operations Abid Khan, CTO Muntazir Mehdi and other senior officers supervised the security arrangements.

The teams were taken in a cavalcade to the stadium from the hotel. CCTV cameras were also used for surveillance and monitoring, while Dolphin Squad and PRU teams continued patrolling.

On the other hand, CTO Muntazir Mehdi said the roads were closed only for eight to nine minutes when the teams were travelling.

He said that traffic wardens had set up diversions to facilitate the drivers.
