Drought-hit farmers promised support

Government was promoting agriculture and providing a number of incentives to the farmers

ISLAMABAD:

Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Shaukat Tarin has assured drought-hit farmers of the Thal region of full support of the government. In a meeting on Wednesday, he directed the Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) president to take measures for providing relief to growers of the affected area. He said that the government was promoting agriculture and providing a number of incentives to the farmers in a bid to improve crop yields. He suggested insurance coverage of crops for sustainable support for the farmers. On the occasion, MNA Malik Muhammad Ehsanullah Tiwana apprised meeting participants of the problems and issues faced by the small farmers of Thal and said that they were severely affected by the persistent drought. “Due to this, they are unable to repay agricultural loans and are forced to seek support of the government to address their problems and provide adequate relief,” he said.
