Former CJ seeks foolproof security post-retirement
Former chief justice Gulzar Ahmed has sought foolproof security amid threats to his person and family.
A letter written by the Registrar’s Office on January 27 sought for the retiring judge foolproof security at home and during his travels.
During his tenure, Justice Gulzar heard and decided on a number of high-profile cases relating to constitutional, criminal, fundamental rights, circular railways, government officials and the rights of minorities.
The letter stated that according to Article 25 (1) of the Supreme Court Rules, security is provided to the chief justice even after retirement.
According to the letter, the lives of Justice Gulzar and his family are in grave danger. In order to avoid any untoward incident, it is imperative that the former CJP and his family be provided security (rangers, police).
