DSP shot dead by own gunman in Hyderabad

Exchange of hot words is said to be the reason behind killing

HYDERABAD:

A deputy superintendent of police (DSP) was shot dead by his own guard in Qasiamabad on Thursday. Exchange of hot words is said to be the cause of the killing of DSP Faiz Muhammad Dayo, posted in Qasimabad.

The incident took place near pakora stop, an intersection on main Qasimabad road. According to the police at 6.40pm. The suspect, police constable Abid Chandio, was arrested from the spot along with the official SMG which was used in the killing of DSP.

Video footages of the crime scene recorded by the citizens showed the DSP’s body lying on the front seat of the police van bearing registration number SP-800. Although he appeared dead, the initial incident report prepared by the police claimed that he died on way to the hospital.

The report said that Dayo sustained four to five gunshots. His body was shifted to Liaquat University Hospital for postmortem. “On some issue, not yet known, hot words were exchanged between DSP Faiz Muhammad Dayo and his gunman police constable, Abid Chandio. Enraged Chandio opened fire with government SMG, seriously injuring the DSP,” reads the police report.

Dayo was transferred from Noshehro Feroze to Hyderabad about four months ago. He was posted as DSP Qasimabad subdivision. He belonged to Thull Tehsil of Jacobabad District. He is survived by wife, four sons and a daughter. The incident’s FIR has not yet been registered.

Moments after Dayo’s death, the Hyderabad police aired a message on wireless advising police and Rangers officials to remain alert, expressing fear that one or more attacks may be carried out in the city.
