'Strive for effective and comprehensive legislation to protect women’s rights'

Parliamentary Secretary for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Dr Rubaba Khan Buledi has said that the Access to Information Act in Balochistan will help in transparency and good governance and every citizen will be acquainted with measures related to public interest and government affairs.

“Strive for effective and comprehensive legislation to protect women’s rights and provide them with maximum opportunities in economic activities,” she said.

“Instructions have been issued to expedite the process of legal scrutiny on the drafts presented in the Balochistan Legislative Assembly by activating the parliamentary affairs,” she added.

She expressed these views while talking to Seema Batool, Anwar Baloch, Program Officer, NGO Shirkat Gah, here on Thursday.

She added that necessary amendments in the old laws in Balochistan and new challenges and requirements for legislation are being smoothened.

In this regard, capacity building in the law and parliamentary affairs department and a strategy has been formulated in consultation to expedite the legal voting process and regular review meetings will be held to review the departmental performance on a regular basis.

She said that the unanimous stand of all the members of the Assembly on the bills related to women in Balochistan could prove to have immediate consequences in terms of approval and implementation of the laws, therefore we are trying to reach consensus on all the pending Bills and by approving them, the measures for their implementation should be made effective.

Dr Rubaba said that the Right to Information Act is a law of public interest which will protect the rights of the citizens and it will be an extraordinary step towards the establishment of good governance.
