Justice Bandial to now head SJC, JC

Justice Ahsan became member of the JC as he ranked fourth in the chain of seniority

ISLAMABAD:

The formation of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) and Judicial Commission (JC) has changed after the swearing in of Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial.

After taking oath as the top judge CJ Bandial has become the chairman of the SJC and the JC.

The SJC will consist of Justice Qazi Faez Isa, Justice Maqbool Baqir and two senior chief justices of the high courts.

Justice Ahsan became a member of the JC as he ranked fourth in the chain of seniority.

The JC will comprise four senior judges of the Supreme Court including Justice Qazi Faez Isa, Justice Maqbool Baqir, Justice Sardar Tariq Masood and Justice Ijazul Ahsan.

Other members of the JC include the attorney general, law minister and Justice (retd) Sarmad Jalal Usmani. Advocate Akhtar Hussain, a representative of the Pakistan Bar Council has also been included in the JC.

It should be noted that the JC has a central role in the appointment of judges in the superior courts while the SJC has a central role in removing them.
