ISLAMABAD:

An important and major phase of cross-examination of prosecution witnesses in the Noor Muqqadam murder case was completed on Wednesday. During the hearing, three different petitions were also filed by the lawyer of the main accused Zahir Jaffer.

One of the petitions has sought action against the Islamabad Police Inspector-General for issuing an explanatory statement about the proceedings of the case.

The petition filed by Sikandar Zulqarnain, counsel for the main accused, said that during the trial, the police had issued an explanatory statement in the media regarding the investigation of the case and the court should take appropriate action. During the cross-examination in the court, the investigating officer of the case had stated that the pants of the accused had no bloodstains at the time of his arrest and his fingerprints were not found on the knife and the pistol.

The lawyer of the main accused also filed another petition requesting the court to issue orders to the presiding officer to visit the crime scene and take action against the investigating officer for not drawing the correct map.

A third petition has also been filed by the accused's lawyer in which it is claimed that the mobile number provided by the plaintiff Shaukat Muqqadam to the victim's mother is registered in the name of another woman.
