HANGU:

Two policemen and a tribesman were killed in two separate incidents in Hangu and North Waziristan tribal district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P).

In the first incident two traffic police constables were gunned down by unidentified bike riders in Doaba, Hangu district.

Police told The Express Tribune that two policemen Speen Zar and Ayeen Hussain had been deployed in Doaba for traffic duty where they were targeted by miscreants who managed to escape after committing the crime.

“The attackers were riding bikes who opened firing at the policemen and then fled taking full advantage of the stampede and confusion caused by the attack,” said a police official, adding that both the constables were rushed to nearby hospital where they were pronounced dead on arrival.

“Constable Speen Zar was a resident of Dalen village while Ayeen Hussain was a resident of Kanjayano Kalay of Hangu district,” he said.

The last rites of the two deceased police constables were offered in Hangu Police Lines with full guard of honour and their bodies were sent to ancestral graveyards for burial.

Police started investigation in the case. In a separate incident, one man was killed in Mir Ali tehsil of North Waziristan tribal district when his vehicle was blown up in a roadside bomb blast.

Police said that Muhammad Wali was travelling in his motor car when his vehicle was targeted in an IED planted by the roadside by unidentified miscreants, killing him on the spot.

“Muhammad Wali died on the spot and his vehicle was also completely destroyed,” claimed police, adding that he was a driver in gas company in Quetta and he was in his village on leave.

“We are investigating the case and an FIR has been registered against unknown attackers. The motive behind the attack is not clear at this point,” he said.

It is worth mentioning here that attacks at police have intensified in recent months.

There is a sharp increase in extortion calls from neighbouring Afghanistan as well.

Police has been the primary target of these attacks.

In North Waziristan not only policemen have been targeted frequently in the recent past but security forces and the general public is also a target.
