Man commits suicide in Rawalpindi

In separate incident, woman killed over domestic dispute

RAWALPINDI:

An unidentified man ended his life by hanging himself from a high-voltage power transformer in the Gali Loharan area within the jurisdiction of the Pirwadhai police station.

Despite the locals reportedly contacting various departments including the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO), help did not reach on time and the deceased died due to severe electric shock within 15-20 minutes.Eyewitnesses said that an unidentified man climbed up a power pole installed in Gali Loharan on Monday and hanged himself from the transfer, which triggered the electricity to surge through his body and set him on fire before ending his life.

Subsequently, the electric supply of the area was cut off and remained unavailable for several hours.

Police arrived at the scene and shifted the body to Holy Family Hospital for an autopsy, with officials confirming that the identity of the deceased could not be established.

Police said that they have yet to ascertain why he took this extreme step. A case has been registered.

Meanwhile, a woman was shot dead in Mirza Kambli in the limits of Gujjar Khan police station, Rawalpindi.

According to police, 27-year-old Rafat Bibi's husband, Shaaban, lives and works abroad. Rifat Bibi had a quarrel with her father-in-law, during which her relative from the in-laws opened fire at her, killing her on the spot.

The police took three members of her in-laws' into custody, including Rafat’s father-in-law and started an investigation.

Police officials said that the woman was killed over a domestic dispute. Police are looking into the case.
