Over 1,200 coronavirus cases surface in capital

More educational institutions closed after students, teachers contracted Covid-19

ISLAMABAD:

Health officials on Sunday said that 1,270 new coronavirus cases were reported in the federal capital during the last 24 hours.

According to an official of the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC), as many as 1,555 cases were reported on Saturday while 1,550 cases were reported on Friday.

He said so far 126,473 cases were reported from the federal capital and 979 deaths were reported from Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) while 111,028 patients had been recovered completely. Meanwhile, the government has waived off the booster shorts fee for those visiting abroad, and now they can get free booster while showing their documents.

This booster was already free for the general public.

On the direction of the Ministry of National Health Services, the district administration of Islamabad had continued surveillance of different areas of the capital to reduce transmission of the infection in the selected streets and other sectors.

Meanwhile, eight new cases of coronavirus have been registered in Haripur during the last 24 hours, taking the total number of fresh cases to 37 in the district. Infected persons have been urged to quarantine at home. Several educational institutions have also been closed and several areas sealed after a large number of students and teachers have contracted the Covid-19 in the Hazara division.

The Khanpur Government Girl’s Degree College was closed after positive cases were detected amongst students, teachers and the administrative staff.
