RAWALPINDI:

The Rawalpindi police are all set to start a grand operation against sheesha centres across the district.

Sources said that action would be taken against sheesha centres operating in commercial areas, restaurants and hotels from today (Friday).

According to the sources, the Special Branch has gathered information about dozens of sheesha centres illegally operating in the city. Police sources said that the Rawalpindi police have formulated a plan for a crackdown on sheesha centres. The illegal sheesha centres are functioning in several areas across the garrison city including in Commercial Market, Mall Road, Bank Road, Murree Road and Tench Bazaar.

Police officials said that a large number of youth throng these centres, where they use drugs including sheesha late into the night.

Cases will be registered against those running such businesses and those using sheesha, police sources said adding that a majority of customers were vulnerable school and college students who flock to these sheesha centres often during study hours.
