Work on the sports complex having a 100-room hostel and gymnasium at Liaquat Bagh Rawalpindi has formally begun
The sports complex will have modern facilities for athletes. The sports hostel and gymnasium will cost a total of Rs96.741 million. The project will be completed by June 30.
The foundation stone of a world-class swimming pool has also been laid in the sports complex.
The construction of the swimming pool will cost Rs98.25 million. The construction of the swimming pool will also be completed in 120 days.
Federal Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed laid the foundation stone of the swimming pool.
Federal Parliamentary Secretary Rashid Shafiq said that ‘we want to build a playground. The establishment of playgrounds will provide exercise facilities for people which will lead to healthy activities and ultimately reduce the number of patients in hospitals.
The number of sports grounds in Rawalpindi has also been increased. All grounds have also been upgraded, he said adding that there was no hostel for players in Rawalpindi. “Now, they will also have a hostel in Rawalpindi to stay in,” he said.
“Sports hostels, gyms and swimming pools will be supervised by the district sports committee. There will be no hindrance in their work due to funds. The hostel will have facilities like air conditioning, electric fans, electricity, natural gas and accommodation,” he said.
The gym will be equipped with state-of-the-art exercise equipment, he said adding that there will also be a fixed timing for female players.
Rawalpindi Commissioner Noorul Amin Mengal said that the sports board has sought a grant of Rs6 billion from the Punjab government for the construction of grounds across Punjab including in the Rawalpindi district. “This amount will be used to provide playground facilities in all major cities of Punjab.
