Cotton sowing area to rise 20%

Per-acre yield and area to be enhanced, South Punjab Agriculture Secretary Saqib Ali Ateel assures farmers.

The cotton plantation area will be increased by 20% in the upcoming season, announced South Punjab Agriculture Secretary Saqib Ali Ateel.

In a meeting with Agriculture Task Force for Revival of Cotton Chairman Abid Mahmood Khagga on Tuesday, the secretary noted that best strategies were adopted during the year 2021, which resulted in an increase in cotton harvest.

An integrated pest management model was adopted to tackle pest attacks and reduce input costs, he pointed out. “The model remained highly successful.”

The secretary assured farmers of all possible cooperation to help enhance the per-acre yield and the cultivated area. On the occasion, Agriculture Task Force Chairman Abid Mahmood Khagga lauded the efforts for enhancing the cotton output. He said that Pakistan could not make progress without developing the agriculture sector.
