‘More hospitals needed for rising population’

Health minister reviews progress of ongoing health projects

Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid said on Monday that expansion in the capacity of existing teaching hospitals is extremely important given the increase in population in the provincial metropolis.

Chairing a meeting at the office of the Infrastructure Development Authority (IDAP) the health minister said two to three major hospitals will be completed within the current year. Present in the meeting were P&D Secretary Mujahid Sherdil, Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Department Special Secretary Dr Asif Tufail, Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department Special Secretary Dr Farrukh Naveed, Chief Planning Officer Abdul Haq Bhatti and officers of the IDAP. The health minister reviewed 14 projects of the Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department and the Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Department.

These 14 projects include 200-bed Mother and Child Hospital at Mianwali and Nursing College, 200-bed Mother and Child Hospital at Attock, 200-bed Mother and Child Hospital at Layyah, 200-bed hospital at Rajanpur, setting up of a new hospital in Balochistan, 1,000-bed phase 1 facility at the General Hospital, setting up of a trauma centre and an emergency centre at the Jinnah Hospital.
