Continuous but fruitless struggle: Jawad Ahmad on underdogs singing better than seasoned musicians

Singer-turned-politician calls Pakistan a 'paradise' only for the rich and successful

Singer, activist and politician Jawad Ahmad took to Twitter and shared a melodious video of Muhammad Irfan, a man he presumably met on the street, singing the popular Kumar Sanu and Alka Yagnik song, Mera Dil Bhi Kitna Pagal Hai.

In Ahmad’s opinion, Pakistan is “a paradise only for rich, successful and famous people”. Comparing Irfan’s voice to that of known professionals, the Bin Tere hitmaker wrote, “countless Pakistanis like this young man sing better than many of [the] country's star singers but will never make it due to being poor.”

He further called out the vicious cycle of struggle and lack of opportunities presented to the poor, adding, “Crores of weak, helpless, oppressed people’s [lives are] a continuous but fruitless struggle.”

The comment section was full of praise for Irfan hitting the right notes, and for Ahmad taking a stand for the unjust system in the country. Some even requested the singer to collaborate with Irfan and give him a platform with the power the singer holds.

The Mehndi crooner has time and again taken the space to speak for the people, whether it’s calling out the Prime Minister on his sexist remarks or dedicating a song for global peasants movements to show his support.
