Prime suspect in medical student suicide case arrested
Police on Saturday arrested the main accused in the case of a medical college student’s suicide in Dadu, from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s (K-P) Swabi.
A student identified as Asmat Jamil was being allegedly blackmailed by a man named Shaman Solangi who harassed her by faking a nikah nama (marriage certificate).
Her body was recovered from her home along with a suicide note addressed to her father. The body was later taken to the hospital for postmortem.
According to the police, the special task of district police officer Muhammad Shoaib Khan conducted a major operation in the Swabi after it received a tip-off and arrested Solangi. He would be now taken to Dadu after legal proceedings.
The accused had fled to Swabi district while Sindh police were also pursuing the accused, the police added.
According to the deceased’s father, Solangi in connivance with a Nikkah Khwan and witnesses prepared a fake marriage certificate. Toor told that they challenged the fake certificate in a local court which declared it fake and ordered the police to register an FIR against all those involved. “We found her too stressed out during the last two weeks,” he said.
